Hi out there! This page is for elementary and intermediate teachers to get ideas and collaborate. I love learning from other teachers and hope I can provide some resources for others as well. Even if you are a parent eager to check out life in a Maine fourth grade classroom, there may some interesting info for you too. :)
My main purpose for this blog is to share ideas. However, I imagine many teachers who blog also use their own sites to reflect on their teaching. One of my professional goals is to dig deeper into learning about Whole Brain Teaching (WBT). This blog will be dedicated to implementing WBT methods as well as other areas, such as Daily 5.
I am also working towards a Master's degree in Literacy Education from The University of Maine, where I also a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. As I have learned about best practices and the importance of being teacher researcher, I have come to strongly believe in using best practices to meet the needs of my students. This may sound like a teaching philosophy statement, but that's not what I'm going for. My hope is to learn to improve my own practice but ideally learn alongside other teachers in this global community. This is my hello to teachers and my request to learn alongside you.
As of the May 2013, I have taught fourth grade for five years and will be moving to a grades 3/4 split level next year. Yikes. I know. I'm a little nervous! Hence the title, Mainely Fourth. Not only am I a teacher in Maine, but mainly my experience is teaching fourth graders. :) I absolutely love this age group and am anxious to teach a split level. But every year is a new adventure, right?
Welcome, and enjoy.
Sarah
